Andy Littlefield has been sending me some killer photos of spots around Sacramento. I plan on making a trip up there soon so we can film for the Jazzpush video.

End of Year Blowout 2012- Yeti

We once again are at the end of the year, which means I post photos I never used. I didn't shoot as much this year because I've been more focused on the Jazzpush video, but regardless this is what I got.

Dig This

It's finally online! This video came out with our first zine back in April and features Daniel Parks, James Fuchs, John Gutierrez, Andy Littlefield, Stephen Figueira, and John Lucas. Dig This was really fun to work on and for the most part it was us just skating and not even trying to film. The Templeton day was especially fun, filming that whole part in one day. Now go and Skate!

Another Year - Cody Ages and Credits

Well this is it. Cody got enders and it was well deserved. I think even as good as this part was, it didn't give justice to how good Cody really is. I used to go skate those baywood ledges and when I would roll up, 9 out of 10 times, Cody would be there by himself skating. I remember seeing him do tailslide 270 first try when he was still warming up. I'm not sure about Cody's whereabouts today, but Baywood has suffered in his absence.

Thanks to Kory Kroll and everybody in this video. This was one of my favorite videos growing up and there will be more to come soon!

Another Year - Salmon, Woody, and Maverick

So this is the last montage of the video. There's only one part after this and it's quite the closer.

Mike Salmon was one of those kids who's goal in life was to piss everybody off, but in the most awesome way possible. I remember one of his friends had his tail on a ramp getting ready to drop in and Mike pushed him off the ramp because he was taking too long. He would go through all of his skate magazines and tear up Gonz photos in front of me because he knew it was my favorite skater. Things like this would piss you off but for some reason you couldn't help but like the guy.

Woody was just the man. Wu Tang shirts, huge switch crooks, and always antics. Mike ran over his foot once because Woody requested it. The dude was just a character and of course, super good at skating.

Maverick's skating is undeniable but his attitude during this time was just too jockish to me. He had a very competitive attitude towards skating and it just rubbed me the wrong way.

So next week we will conclude Another Year with Cody Ages.

Intermission

With Another Year coming to towards its end stretch, I thought I would do something different this week and post some local vids I found.

The first is the Cayucos Halloween Contest. I was only there for the beginning and to be honest, I really wasn't into it that much. Costumes weren't that cool and basically if Ty Hjortland and Boomer weren't there, it would have been pretty dead. I was only there less than an hour though, so maybe I'm just spouting nonsense.

Stephen Figueira rips. Super good style and solid tricks. Expect a killer part by him in the Jazzpush video whenever/if it comes out.

The last video is by the Phat Pile guys. I like these vids because they always keep it super raw. Just good dudes skating. No HD bullshit, no lame indie songs, I don't even think they film VX. Just solid skating. Also good to know that they are still keeping the Rec alive!

Beef Bologna

Props to Matty for making it on hellaclips with this boardslide. Being in the background will be the closest I ever get to having a clip on that site.

This is the first time I don't have a Halloween picture for Jazzpush. No blue men, scurvy pirates, or pro wrestlers this year.

Another Year - Kris Kroll

This was always my favorite part in the video. Kris had original tricks and a sense of improvisation that I really enjoyed watching. I would see him struggle for a single trick and take the hardest slams, but when he got it, he would land another 4 to 5 tricks in a line. I was there for the five-o 180 at Morro Bay park and originally he was just going for straight five-o but in a spur of the moment Kris just decided to go 180 and landed it. I would have to say Kris was my favorite local skater and kinda the guy I tried to emulate. Not trying to fan out too hard here, but this dude was rad.

Also I've got a free Jazzpush shirt for anybody who can send me proof of kickfliping the gap at 1:49. It's at Monarch Elementary in Los Osos.

Another Year - I've Heard it Before

I remember Tristan was the first person to set me straight at the old Los Osos park. I cut him off and he made sure to let me know. I was there for that tre flip tail grab and he had them every try. Pat Donnelly gets nutty with a barefoot frontside flip and Nick Walters gets a trick.

It looks like next week we'll continue "Another Year" with one of my all time favorite video parts.

Another Year - Ki Crumpton

Ki Crumpton had the first part in "Another Year" and man was it good. With only about a minute of footage Ki skated some rails (like that last one) that still don't get touched. It seemed like Ki was just good at everything. I took guitar lessons when I was younger and after my lesson Ki dropped by to rip on drums with my teacher. In 2003 Ki was by far the best guy around here (in my humble opinion) and this part solidified that.
Oh yeah, he also was the first to touch this rail.

Dredge the Lethe - Newsense "Another Year"

We start off our revamped Dredge the Lethe series with "Another Year" by Newsense. This was their third and final video with their first being "Central Coast Chaos" in 2001 and "Damage Inc" in 2002. I remember this video having Brew Swet like hype when it came out and the premiere in Morro Bay was awesome. Take a trip back to 2003 where everyone in Los Osos and Morro Bay had Newsense boards and this was the gnarliest local video.

Back in the day these stickers were everywhere. You can still find them around if you look hard enough.

Next week we begin to Dredge the Lethe.

Dredge the Lethe Series

I've been working for years now to collect all of this footage. Our Dredge the Lethe series has been a running theme on Jazzpush since the beginning, but now we are going to put it in full effect. The video teaser above is a compilation of Central Coast local skate videos that go as far back as 2001. To my knowledge, that's the earliest footage of a local skate video presented so far. The goal is to show the history (at least of the 2000s) of local skate videos that if not posted here, might not ever be seen. Sit back and relax as we begin to Dredge the Lethe.

Dredge the Lethe - 70's edition

Every once in a while I try to search for old local skate footage. I usually hope to find some 90's, maybe 80's footage, but I never expect anything from the 70's. Well I ended up finding this awesome video of skating at Lopez Lake ditch and an empty pool in Slo from 1976. To top it all off the guy even added Ronnie Montrose as music. You can't lose with that.

#100 Face the Music

Yep
I have no real idea how this has lasted so long but i'm happy it has.

Big Shots
Guy Mariano skates a spine during a later Cal Poly Thrash-a-thon. Photo thanks to Chrome Ball Incident.

Another view of David Gravette's krooked grind. I remember skating there as a kid and wondering if that was possible. Well it is.

Before the beard and the TV show Jeff King was riding for Invisible. Watch this part and look out for multiple Slo spots that still are not really skated. After do some research on the Caught Clean videos. Cult classics for sure.

The Gonz
The greatest skater ever. The clips before Gonz makes history at Wallenberg, are at Cal Poly. Even 22 years later, that rail at Poly seems insane.

Hokus Pokus
The first 30 seconds of this part has Colby Carter skating Poly as well. Keep watching though because you need to know about Brian Lotti. The H-Street guys hit Poly up in this part as well as this.

Back to Reality

Barton Boris Bodrian - Ollie
He might have bailed on me but Bart was a vital part of the beginning of this. He was the one who sparked the idea and after a specific session and a good story, Jazzpush started.

Michael Mull plug just because. Original Mayor of Meadow.
Your zine and video is on its way.

John Lucas - Noseblunt
John Lucas always rips. Take him to the best spots or the crustiest banks and he is excited to skate it.

Daniel Parks - Blunt fakie
Gotta end it with one of my favorite skaters at my all time favorite spot. With Daniel's help expect an Unearthed Summer zine and a full length Jazzpush video in July.

Kids need to leave Slo park every once in a while and skate around. Kevin and Travis get out of the park and have some fun on a impromptu table setup.
