It's crazy to think this was ten years ago. This was my first attempt to make a video. There was absolutely no reason to do so. I probably gave out five copies and called it good. This was back when Barton actually skated, I used to jump down stuff, Luc wasn't the Yeti yet, and Jamey was the only one who had style. For the five who care, sit back and enjoy!

More Baby D....big surprise there
Fellow Potatwerp, Joel Potter, has been steadily snapping some fresh flicks of Daniel Curiel down in the LBC. Check his blog for some epic photos! http://joelpotterphoto.tumblr.com/

Jazztato
It's official. The rumor no one has been talking about: Jazztato is happening. It will hopefully be dropping right around the end of the year, but you know how skate video premiers work...soooo 2020?
Skate Warehouse is hosting the Transworld Skateboarding "Outliers" premier this Thursday, Oct 23, at 7:00pm at the Palm Theater in SLO. We'll be playing a short Jazztato promo before the film starts, so make sure you come out. We'll see you there!
RIP Matt Reason
Such a bummer to hear about the passing of Matt Reason. He was one of the main inspirations for me to learn wallrides and pole jams. If you don't know who this is, do some research and watch his parts.

Jazzpick - Danny Minnick in Next Generation
Skateboarding is at a point where variation and acceptance is at an all time high. Park guys, street guys, vert, rails, curbs, no comply's, and ledge dancing is all accepted. Despite all of the tolerance, skateboarding has neglected to bring back this extinct creature called the mini ramp pro.
H-Street's Next Generation (1992) exemplifies the mini ramp pro at the peak of its existence. Some of the parts may be a bit hard to watch in this video but I think Danny Minnick came through with a short and sweet part with style and originality. That's why we pay homage this month to a criminally underrated part that would put most of these Cayucos ramp kids to shame.
Don't knock coping dancers until you've tried them. They're not easy.

Central Coast Chaos After Black
Although these questions may never be answered, we at least have the memories of what was Newsense. Thanks to Kory Kroll for finding me a copy after five years of digging. Thanks to all the guys in this vid for having enough ethic to create something for themselves and to inspire others.
Watch Part 1 of Central Coast Chaos here!

No Homo, All Homie
Joel and I had a nice little morning session this week in 100 degree weather. It was a hot, sweaty, mess.

Boris the Spider
Once upon a time, Barton Boris Bodrian actually skated. He had a blonde mohawk, a silly earring, and did Gonz flips. Oh wait, he still has Gonz flips.

Mucho Pain, Mucho Gain
This is a screen grab from one of the hardest slams I've seen Daniel take yet. It spooked him pretty good, however, after a few minutes he shook it off and went for it again.
I've never seen him more relieved than when he landed this front grind.

September Jazzpick: Chad Tim Tim in 'A Time To Shine'
Although this may not be a "classic" part quite yet (2006), this has been my favorite video part since the first time I saw it. There are two things that particularly stand out to me in the part:
1) The most stylish flat-ground nollie flip in the line at 1:31...so smoov!
2) The insane switch line at the Belmont ledges starting at 2:53.
As far as I know, up until this year, Chad Tim Tim was the first person to grind the top ledge and the only to do it switch. So sit back, kick your feet up and start the month off right with this part.
Cheers!

Gnargaritaville
This double set is literally across the street from my house and I've always dreamed of skating it but knew that I would never be able to touch it. It's super gnarly and tall enough to sack Shaqille O'Neal! Luckily I can skate vicariously through my skate-puppet, Baby D. I point - he does. It's a pretty good thing we got goin on over here.

Welcome to the Big League!
Daniel Curiel (aka Baby D aka Young Yeti aka Tatertot) embarked on a new journey this week. Our little boy is growing up; he's flown the coup and gone off to college. In true Long Beach fashion, I brought him to the highest ledge known to man and he wasted not time gettin buck. It's so cool to see a ripper from a small town skate in a real skate city. He was genuinely "spot-struck" - he couldn't get over the fact that he was skating the same ledge that pros skated. Well, he joined the premier league with a back smith that was damn near nipple high on the lad. Well done my friend, and welcome to Long Beach. You're gonna fit in just fine.

Too Gnar
It's always humbling to see the big boiz skate local spots. If you think you've ever done anything gnarly at the Morro Bay ditch, it was probably just child's play compared to this beaut.

August JAZZPICK drumroll please...
This is my first post on jazzpush, so I hope you will like it; it was a enjoyably tedious thing to choose one video part that gets me hyped to skate for this month's 'jazzpick'. The song, the skating, the editing, the spots, the tricks, and the skater for this part are perfect. This whole video was incredible; and yeah, you have all see it, and no, it was not underground, but it is poignant and paints a picture of skating at that time. It was a time when I was really keeping up with skating and Stevie was inspiring me. Honorable mention: Any Jon Allie, Brian Wenning, or Ryan Smith part, Johnny Layton "Good and Evil", and Brian Hansen "Slaughterhouse".
-Love, the yeti. Whew.

Home
The first week I got home for summer I took a pretty nasty fall. One dislocated shoulder and six weeks later, I'm still wallowing in my sorrow and won't be able to skate for another month. However, that hasn't slowed the other Potatwerps. They're going harder than ever. As kids, we all looked at this spot and wished we had the cajones to actually do something on it. Twenty-some-odd years later, Ben used his big boy legs to pop this boardslide and land on some crusty ground. Be on the look out for Potatwo... coming later than sooner.

Even with the ground literally falling to pieces, I can't justify giving up on this spot. It's still the best.

Jazzpicks - July
For this months Jazzpick selection I went with an all time personal favorite, Gershon's part in the Globe Opinion video (2001). GMOS had an incredibly powerful approach to skating and made a perfect song selection to highlight that. It's always good to get a flashback to how you remember skateboarding being as a kid. Watch and enjoy!

Cornball
As the love/hate relationship with SLO Park comes to an end, a proper farewell seems necessary...
Backside flip shot by Jade Sadeghian (2011).
Thought I would start it off with the straight assassination of the old handrails by Greg Calise (2004).
These were during the days where I would actually hoping fences to skate the park. How things change!
Kicker to couch? Where's the ladder?
Cougar crushes!
This edit by Jade is one of my favorites. Such a good song choice!
During this time there was talk about Cooper making a SLO Park video.
10 tricks with Vito.
Friday nights at the park were always a good time. Here's some B-Lace action.
One of the great traditions of the park are the weirdos who end up lurking for months on end. Mossy, Tristan (who waxed the pyramid), and General Steezy were all lurkers who made the park seem even more weird. 88 The Alien might be the top winner. Thanks to Jade for making such a ridiculous video and thanks to Dylan for stealing the show.
Some more Jadetage
The red ledge came at a perfect time when it seemed the park was getting stale.
Stephen likes beer.
VHS vibes from Mikey Days
The wonder child himself.
Sorry for never filming here Cody.
This went way too long so lets end it here.

Jazzpicks - Hokus Pokus Night Session
We decided to start a new monthly section
dedicated to inspirational skate videos that are out of the realm of SLO County. My pick for June is the legendary night session
in H-Street’s Hokus Pokus (1989). A longtime friend, Steve Money once described to me his first viewing of Hokus Pokus, as the absolute
shock and awe of so many never been done tricks left him and his friends
screaming throughout the entire video. Steve isn't
the only nostalgic H-Street fan, as it motivated a new generation of street
skating to take over in the coming decade.
I know Matt Hensley’s stylish pop-shove it backside grab will forever be
engraved in my mind, and the shredding instrumental track is equally top notch.
Enjoy Carroll, Hensley, Donger, and the
Dance of Life in this absolute classic.

Eli Stein goes for the over-under approach with this high risk hippy jump.
The crowd seems skeptical, but that don't phase Jankem - ollie.

As it should be
Every once and a while a video comes along that perfectly captures the true essence of skateboarding. Pontus Alv hit that nail on the head with this one. The perfect mix of artsy fartsy and raw street style. Kickflips for the young guys, jump ramps for the old guys- this truly has it all.

Euro Trip
Hard to believe this was almost a year ago, but I had an opportunity to spend some time in Europe this past summer with Ben. It truly is skate heaven on earth.
